Hi everyone!
It's hard to believe that we're already into November! Where is the school year going? We had a great October with the students and wanted to let you know about a few highlights. - Our students led the way for the Terry Fox Run to be a huge success, raising over $1000 !!!! They used technology to help make positive change in their community and in our world. - Students have been working hard to write a biography on a person they admire in Language Arts. We have been spending time reading biographies and looking at the presentation of a biography. Students have been busy reading about their individual and using a planning page to record their information. They are writing their rough copies! - We have been working on important editing skills, including: punctuation, grammar, capitalization, and spelling - Word Work has consisted of different strategies to make words, making words from words they know, and looking at prefixes and suffixes - In art students have been busy creating an autobiography map with symbols that represent them, a Halloween scene, a watercolour leaf picture, and a pumpkin picture, using various materials! -In math we have started reviewing our strategies for the multiplication facts up to 9x9. Any extra practice at home will go a long way, be sure to ask what strategies they are using as well! After this review we will be moving onto our division facts so a strong understanding of multiplication is needed to have success with the division facts. -We are also exploring area and perimeter of rectangles in math. Please click on the downwards arrow to download each of the documents below to your computer or device. Weekly Words are given each Monday and are due every Thursday unless otherwise stated.
Some of the highlights of September include:
- Working towards receiving our Digital Driver's Licenses by discussing, learning about, and exploring internet safety and it's appropriate uses for the classroom - Setting up GNSPES email accounts and Showbie accounts - Using educational apps in the classroom, including: - Setting classroom expectations and routines for daily activities - Setting fundraising goals for the Terry Fox Run at our school - Writing autobiographical information about ourselves in many ways: - Creating "Autobiography Islands" in visual arts - Using writing time to focus on writing about ourselves and our lives |
